Turning the Tide: Advancing Indonesia’s Blue Economy Through Ocean-Based Mitigation Actions

According to this study by Climateworks Centre, Indonesia, the world’s largest archipelagic nation, holds immense potential to align its $1.3 trillion Blue Economy with its climate goals, leveraging 17 percent of global blue-carbon ecosystems. Realizing this requires operationalizing potential through enhanced governance, finance, and regional cooperation. The core challenge is shifting from ambition to execution, requiring strengthened Marine Spatial Planning and embedding blue sectors within a sustainable finance taxonomy to unlock investment for both emission reduction and livelihood enhancement.
